Brisbane’s Shift Toward Commercial Solar
Brisbane’s commercial sector is experiencing a major transformation in its operational landscape. For decades, local businesses have relied entirely on a centralized, volatile electrical grid to power their day-to-day operations. Today, smart Brisbane companies are taking control of their overhead costs by generating their own clean electricity right from their commercial rooftops.
Driven by rapid technological advancements and a dramatic drop in engineering deployment costs over the past decade, solar energy has become one of Brisbane’s most reliable and high-yield commercial investments. Switching to commercial solar is no longer just an environmental checkbox—it is a powerful financial strategy to slash fixed business expenses, shield your cash flow from rising utility rates, and secure a self-sustaining future.
Solar Expertise
After working in the commercial solar industry since 2008, it was clear to the Directors that the increasing size and complexity of Commercial Solar Systems required a dedicated approach. Connect Energy has the expertise and foresight to ensure success for your commercial solar power projects.
With decades of combined industry experience, Connect Energy brings unmatched expertise to commercial solar design, installation and long-term energy management. Our team consists of certified solar professionals, engineers and installers who understand the complexities of commercial energy systems and the importance of delivering precision, reliability and performance on every project.
Industrial & Manufacturing Facilities
Industrial operations are highly energy-intensive, run heavy machinery, and face steep peak demand tariffs. Our custom industrial engineering focuses on load optimization and peak shaving. By installing heavy-duty commercial solar arrays, manufacturing hubs across Brisbane can permanently offset their high daytime operational electricity demands and protect their bottom-line profit margins.
Commercial Offices & Corporate Spaces
Commercial office buildings naturally consume the vast majority of their electricity between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM—precisely when solar energy generation is at its absolute peak performance. Transforming empty office roof space into a localized green power plant allows corporate enterprises to lock down predictable energy forecasting, drastically lower operating expenses, and immediately fulfill ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) targets.
Commercial Solar System Sizes & What They Suit
Commercial solar is not a single product. The right system depends on your daytime consumption, available roof or ground area, and how much of your load you want to offset.
30kW – 50kW. Suits smaller commercial premises such as single-tenancy warehouses, medium retail sites, professional offices and light manufacturing workshops. This range typically fits comfortably on a standard commercial roof and offsets a meaningful share of daytime load.
50kW – 100kW. The most common range for Brisbane businesses with sustained daytime operation, including distribution centres, larger retail premises, cold storage, aged care facilities and multi-tenancy commercial buildings.
100kW – 500kW. Built for high-consumption sites such as food processing, plastics and metal fabrication, large logistics hubs, hospitality groups and education campuses. At this scale the design shifts toward matching your actual load curve rather than simply filling available roof space.
500kW and above. Megawatt-scale installations for industrial operations and multi-site portfolios, involving detailed energy modelling, staged delivery and close coordination with Energex on network capacity.
Every Connect Energy commercial project begins with interval data from your electricity retailer, so your system is sized against how your business actually consumes power rather than a rule of thumb.
What Commercial Solar Costs in Brisbane
Commercial solar pricing depends on four main variables: system size, roof type and access, inverter configuration, and whether battery storage is included.
What increases cost: difficult roof access, tilt frames on flat roofs, ageing roof sheeting requiring remediation, switchboard upgrades, long cable runs, and network-imposed export limiting equipment.
What reduces cost: small-scale technology certificates for systems up to 100kW, straightforward roof geometry, existing switchboard capacity, and installing alongside a planned roof replacement or fit-out.
Connect Energy provides a fixed-price commercial proposal following a site assessment. Your proposal sets out system size, projected generation, expected offset against current consumption, and a payback calculation based on your actual tariff rather than a generic estimate.

STCs, LGCs & Business Solar Incentives
Australian businesses installing solar can access federal incentives that materially reduce the upfront cost of a system.
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Available for systems up to 100kW. STCs are generated based on system size and location, and are almost always applied as an upfront discount on your invoice rather than claimed separately. Brisbane sits in a favourable STC zone. The value of the scheme reduces each year until it ends in 2030, so earlier installation yields a larger benefit.
Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs). For systems above 100kW. Rather than an upfront discount, LGCs are generated annually based on actual output and can be sold, creating an ongoing revenue stream across the life of the system.
Depreciation and asset write-off. Commercial solar is a depreciable business asset, and depending on your turnover and the prevailing threshold, some or all of the cost may be deductible in the year of installation. We recommend confirming treatment with your accountant.
Industries We Power
Warehousing and logistics. Large uninterrupted roof spans and strong daytime load make distribution centres among the best commercial solar candidates in Brisbane, with forklift charging and refrigeration drawing heavily during generation hours.
Retail and shopping centres. Trading hours align closely with peak generation, and lighting, air conditioning and refrigeration form a predictable base load that solar offsets efficiently.
Agriculture and agribusiness. Irrigation pumping, packing sheds and cold storage across South East Queensland run hardest when the sun is strongest, and ground-mount systems are often viable where roof area is limited.
Healthcare and aged care. Continuous air conditioning, medical equipment and hot water create round-the-clock demand, and these sites frequently benefit from pairing solar with battery storage for both savings and backup resilience.
Hospitality and accommodation. Kitchens, laundries, pool plant and air conditioning generate high, sustained daytime consumption across hotels, clubs and venues.
Education and community facilities. Schools, childcare centres and community organisations combine strong daytime load with clear sustainability reporting benefits.
Grid Connection & Approvals in South East Queensland
Commercial solar involves a network approval process that residential installations do not. Connect Energy manages this from application through to commissioning.
Connection application. Every commercial system requires an application to Energex before installation, and systems above 30kW generally trigger a more detailed technical assessment.
Export limiting. Energex may cap how much energy your system can export to the grid. This is a design constraint rather than a barrier, and systems are configured to prioritise on-site consumption, which is where the financial return sits.
Protection and metering. Larger systems require specific protection equipment and, in some cases, a metering upgrade, which we specify and coordinate as part of the design.
Timeframes. Approval timelines vary with system size and available network capacity in your area. We build realistic approval windows into every project schedule rather than quoting an installation date we cannot meet.
